Ethical standards
Ethical Standards
Science and Technology adheres to the ethical standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and to the principles of transparency and best practices of the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA).
Autoría responsable
The journal adopts the CRediT taxonomy to identify each author’s contributions. Honorary authors, ghost authors, and the inclusion of individuals without actual scientific involvement are not accepted. All authors share responsibility for the published content and are collectively accountable for the academic integrity of the work.
Derechos de autor
Authors retain copyright and economic rights to their works. Once the manuscript is accepted, authors grant the Quevedo State Technical University, on behalf of the journal Ciencia y Tecnología, a non-exclusive and royalty-free license to edit, publish, distribute, index, and preserve the article, which is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license. Authors may deposit the published version in institutional repositories and on personal websites for noncommercial purposes, provided they cite the original publication.
Readers' Rights
All articles are available free of charge and immediately upon publication. The journal does not charge any fees for publication or for access to its content.
Publication Rights
Each article must be accompanied by a letter of assignment of rights for publication, stating that the manuscript is unpublished, has not been submitted simultaneously to another journal, and that Ciencia y Tecnología is authorized to publish it first. The author is responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material and must clearly cite tables, figures, or text with their complete references. The opinions expressed in the articles are the sole responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the journal’s position.
Authors’ Responsibilities
Authors must guarantee the originality of their manuscripts, avoiding plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplication, or data manipulation. They must also ensure that the results are accurate and verifiable, that images have not been improperly altered, and that sources are correctly cited. Authorship must reflect actual and substantial contributions, and any use of generative artificial intelligence must be transparently disclosed.
In addition, authors are required to promptly disclose any conflicts of interest, sources of funding, required ethical approvals, and institutional or experimental permits, as applicable.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers must maintain absolute confidentiality regarding the manuscripts they evaluate and act with objectivity and impartiality. It is essential that they disclose any conflicts of interest and avoid the personal use of the information reviewed. Their comments must be academically sound and submitted within the deadlines established by the journal. Manuscripts under review may not be disclosed, shared, or used prior to their official publication.
Responsibilities of the Editorial Board
The editorial board is committed to ensuring neutrality in editorial decisions, preserving confidentiality, and ensuring the transparency of the review process. Furthermore, it must handle conflicts of interest ethically, maintain academic independence, and apply objective scientific criteria.
Editorial decisions will be based exclusively on scientific quality, academic relevance, originality, methodological rigor, and thematic relevance. The journal reaffirms that it does not discriminate on the basis of nationality, institutional affiliation, gender, ideology, political orientation, or religion.
The editorial team is also responsible for handling retractions, corrections, expressions of concern, appeals, and complaints, ensuring transparent handling of scientific misconduct.
Responsibilities of the Journal
The journal is committed to handling any case of scientific misconduct—including plagiarism, data manipulation, or improper authorship—in an ethical and transparent manner. In such cases, it may issue retractions, corrections, expressions of concern, appeals, or resolutions of complaints, following COPE’s international guidelines.
Bioethics
Studies involving humans or animals must declare approval from the relevant institutional or national ethics committee. The resolution number or approval code must be included in the Materials and Methods section. Where applicable, authors must obtain informed consent from participants and any required research permits, and must apply anonymization measures to protect their identities.
