Scientific research plays a very important role in the search for new knowledge, the dissemination of research results occurs mainly through publications in indexed journals. The objective of this work is to determine the degree of precision that exists between the number of scientific publications and the citation in indexed journals, based on the data and indicators available on the Scimago Journal & Country Rank portal, which includes the scientific publications of the Scopus database, all the journals included in SJR are indexed in Scopus. The study is based on bibliometrics, the main tool for determining the quality and impact factor of scientific publications. It is a documentary, non-experimental, descriptive and correlational investigation. Among the main results obtained through the Pearson linear transmission index, it is prolonged that there is a strong relationship between the variables citable documents and the number of citations per scientific research document. A determining factor is the degree of investment in Research and Development (R&D) expenses as a percentage of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which should be no less than 1%. The countries that invest the most in this area have the greatest scientific production.
