Mathematics promotes the development of numerical reasoning and abstract application, therefore, it is necessary for the approach of solutions to problems that are generated in business, including hotel and tourism. According to the didactic experience experienced by the authors of this work in the learning environments of the Hospitality and Tourism faculty of the LaicaEloy Alfaro University, there are weaknesses in the contents of some subjects taught in the specialty, the same which require including calculation topics to strengthen the development of skills and numerical skills. Consequently, this article invites us to reflect on the importance of including calculation and mathematics in program content, specifically in those subjects related to services; because costs and production time are important elements for the maintenance of a company. Methodologically, it was approached as a documentary research, and it was based on a diagnosis made to a group composed of 40 students of the subject of Drinks and cocktails, whose purpose was to identify the level of knowledge in terms of mathematical operations. It is concluded that it is pertinent to incorporate in the programs some mathematical calculation topics, as it is an essential tool for the proper exercise of the undertakings in tourism and hotel services.
